“I must have a thing for the kind of sounds coming from New Paltz, we’ve recently featured Diet Cig and Revival Jam here on E.T. And this new one from Active Bird Community is complete with feedbacking guitars, minor chords snuck in next to majors, a distorted bass, and a gritty voice on “Pregame.” The vocal tone takes me to the guttural tendencies of The Snake The Cross The Crown and Father John Misty, vocalists who can easily charm the pants off anyone with their falsetto and breathier notes. The lead licks take on a melodic role till the end; showing some flair over the slow down strumming, overall there’s warmth for this stew that spreads all over from the minute you shuffle through a mix.”
