“Self described as psych-soul, Space Captain delivers both genres in equal parts on “Landing / Up In The Hills,” a two movement mash-up that transitions from frenetic to subdued and soulful.
An assault of sounds and textures hits you at the beginning of “Landing” – scratchy snare drum, echoey synthesizers, and the occasional laser blast. Bass guitar leads a transition into airier space, accompanied by layers of vocal oohs that bring the first act to a close. “Up In The Hills” is more relaxed, flowing like free verse poetry yet ending somewhat abruptly. This track is joined by lots more soulful psychedelia on Space Captain’s 2016 EP In Memory.”
