The Greenpoint Gallery is a non-profit arts organization. For 12 years, GPG has been a leader and innovator of independent art galleries in Brooklyn. Not only do they host local artists and musicians but they work with several youth organizations in order to teach at risk youth art, music and film. As a Greenpoint resident and member of the art community, we urge everyone we know who has a dollar to spare to help them out in their time of need.

“On January 18th,  there was an electrical fire in the 2nd floor gallery space. Priceless instruments, furniture, and tools were lost. The gallery also had to cancel all the shows we count on to pay the rent and utilities. It’s vital that we get funded as soon as possible in order to replace the instruments, stages, and tools we use to host local musicians and teach kids.

All of the money will be used to replace the galleries instruments, furniture and tools as well as going towards re-wiring the 2nd floor of the gallery. This means so much to us because we are already behind on utility payments and without the 2nd floor gallery running, it’s possible that we will not be able cover the rent. GPG has been a mainstay of the art community in Brooklyn for 12 years and it’s one of the last truly independent galleries left in the city.

We’ve always been able to support ourselves by hosting gallery shows and charging fees to enter and hang work. But we were not ready for this freak accident and we need your help to get over this bump in the road. We will be so grateful for any donations at all. Without you, local artists will lose another independent venue and at risk local youth will lose a great organization in which to learn and earn money for themselves. Thank you so much for considering and donating, it means eveything to us!”
