Elevtrtrax Of The Day – Roots ManuvaDon’t Breathe

Roots Manuva is dubbed as the godfather of UK hip-hop, and he’s back out with some (sorta) new music. Not only did I miss that when it happened, I didn’t know who he was, nor did I see the clutter of deep-cuts permeating with rich hip-hop and soul dating back for years. With the sophomore far in the rearview, his sixth LP, Bleeds, features “Don’t Breathe Out.” The thoughts are elevating consciousness, the feeling is a shot straight to the heart–a aria falsetto sampled of “Honey Please, Can’t Ya See” by the one and only Barry White makes you shaky in the knees. Interesting blend of narratives for me in hip-hop, future funk, lyrical neo-spiritual, gospel + soul music here. Then again I don’t look to the UK as much as others do, but that’s what artists with integrity can do making a place a little brighter than it was before they were there.”
