Celebrate Elevt With Samson The Truest, Pavo Pavo and Rvby My Dear
Sunday night, warm and summery, brought out the best for another set at C’mon Everybody in Bed Stuy. Rainbow flags decorated the windows and inside the venue in tribute to Orlando.
By about 8:30p, the Celebrate Elevt festival’s fifth show kicked off with Rvby My Dear. Ever-endearing vocalist, Gabbi Coenen, sang sweetly into the mic while covering keyboard for the evening. As red light cast colorful shadows across the stage, the audience inched closer to the five-piece band.
Taking over next was Pavo Pavo, synthy and funky. The contrast between the two bands was obvious, although they had very similar set ups. Barefoot and jazzed up, multi-instrumentalist, Oliver Hill, would swing his hair low before jumping into harmonized vocals with Eliza Baggs from across the wooden stage.
Closing the night with a more moody, longing set was Samson The Truest. The lyrics of many of the songs were like a rocker’s rambling diary, melancholy and thoughtful, with moments of pop-like rhythms. Frontman Samson, with lion-mane locks, let his sweeping voice echo around the room.
