Kathy “Yaeji” Lee is a Flushing, Queens native as a single child in a Korean family. Growing up, Yaeji moved from New York to Atlanta when she was 5, and then to South Korea in the third grade before finally after moving frequently came back home to New York and began releasing music, the sum of which can be heard on her new album WHAT WE DREW. It’s a mediation on sound design, R&B grooves that ebb and flow, and clever lyrical melodies that sound like circular and therefor hypnotic. Welcome home Yaeji, welcome home.
