Parekh & Singh – Newbury Street
The Kolkata-based Indian duo Parekh & Singh create pure-ice-tones upon arpeggiated folk guitars; in a way that is all their own. While they may echo nostalgia like ‘Simon & Garfunkle’ via their title, they are anything but traditional folk; I picture they’re more akin to the brilliant compactness of Ben Gibbard at his prime, especially when you think of how smart pop music can be. “Newbury Street” is off Parekh & Singh’s debut full-length Ocean due October 28th via UK’s Peacefrog Records, enjoy this pleasant dose of Kolkata indie-folk.
